Week 3: Pelvic Organ Prolapse Pelvic organ prolapse can occur during menopause due to weakened pelvic muscles brought on by the birthing process, aging and a natural reduction in estrogen.
This third session will examine pelvic organ prolapse, from the various signs and symptoms to the definitions and explanation of cystocele, rectocele and uterine prolapse. You’ll grasp what pelvic organ prolapse means in everyday terms, which will serve as a powerful tool to help you understand and deal with this life-altering condition. The course will also highlight your options, including both invasive and non-invasive techniques to treat and manage pelvic organ prolapse if it happens to you. You will also be introduced to the many faces of incontinence, including the social, economic and personal impact of this often undeclared and embarrassing event of menopause. The course will examine the etiology, prevention, reversal and treatment of Stress Urge Incontinence, including alternative and conservative therapies. Plus, you’ll be introduced to the Kegel exercises designed to strengthen the pubococcygeus muscles of the pelvic floor. Finally, you’ll learn just what foods and medications to avoid if you experience pelvic organ prolapse and different options for pelvic organ prolapse treatment. Monday, May 18, 2009 8:00 PM Eastern
