Haendiges. I am a board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist with membership in several leading medical specialty organizations. I am also a member of the American Academy of Bariatric Physicians as well as the Institute for Functional Medicine, among others. I am currently pursing my education and degree as a Naturopathic Physician with the goal to integrate my traditional medical training with the tools and resources that God has put on this planet for us to use and cherish. By studying this information in a formal fashion, I am assured to provide the highest level of education and advice to those that rely on me for their care. For it is this trust, that I value the most. I have a passion in women’s health, community health, and preventive medicine. I am somewhat frustrated by the traditional medical approach to disease. However, I do have a tremendous respect for traditional, or allopathic, medicine because we do save lives. I really do believe that we can do better. I am proud to practice functional and bariatric medicine solely for the fact that this field of medicine is leading the way to overall health improvement and homeostasis for the individual as well as our society. For without knowledge of the physiology of disease and the prevention of disease before the pathway of disease is initiated, the health of the individual is perpetually compromised. We live in a society that draws our attention away from personal health to the things that glitter and give us instant pleasure. Our tastes and expectations have been skewed by industries that feed on our pocket books and manipulate us into making wrong choices. I believe that once a person is given the knowledge of how to live better, how to prevent disease, this knowledge will empower the individual to live a better life and thereby preserving their health not only for themselves, but also for their family. It is this chain reaction that is going to better our society. I am actively pursuing my education, never resting or feeling comfortable with my knowledge. The rate of information change in this field of medicine is changing daily and it is quest to never let this information stagnate or grow old in my mind. As stated in the literature for Functional Medicine, many of today’s most challenging, costly, and debilitating conditions, including a variety of age-related diseases, are now recognized as being closely tied to the mismatch between dietary and lifestyle habits and genetic predisposition. Heart disease, stroke, type2 diabetes, many cancers, digestive disorders, autoimmune and atopic diseases, osteoporosis, neurodenerative conditions and numerous endocrine and immune problems have all been linked to inappropriate nutrition. It is a proven fact that most of the contemporary practitioners of medicine have very little formal education in nutrition, on how it applies to the individual as well as to the state of health of the individual and to society. We need to have this knowledge and I have pursued this level of education and feel a strong need to get this message heard by my patients as well all the people that I come in contact with in this world, either professionally or personally. I currently have a bariatric medicine practice. Bariatrics is the study of obesity and NOT the surgical treatment of obesity. My program is centered on weight loss with the integration of healthy nutrition and lifestyle changes that will allow the individual to have control over his or her body, and to make the choices that are necessary for a sustained healthy weight. I have the honor of providing these services and advice to not only my female patients but also to my male patients. We even have the pleasure of assisting children with this disease that is robbing them of their health. As part of my foundation, I am an active practitioner of advanced gynecology, assisting women in routine gynecological care as well as treating them for their conditions that are normal and conditions such as heavy and/or painful menses that need an advanced level of treatment. For some of the more complex conditions, I have obtained countless hours of advanced training to tackle historically complex and painful surgeries and to provide this level of therapy but in a minimally invasive fashion. As part of my resources, I am able to provide in office endometrial ablation and to provide outpatient hysterectomies with minimal pain. However, my ultimate goal is to have the nutritional and lifestyle changes that will help to prevent these conditions that now require surgical intervention. I look at the individual and listen to the individual. I have found that if you listen to the patient, she will tell you what is wrong with her. However, if we walk into the room without ever seeing her with the diagnosis already in our minds, then we do a disservice to her and to her family. This is not the practice of medicine that is going to save us from disease. Here at Haendiges and Associates we strive to treat the individual as the individual and not the disease. By becoming a member of this team, you will have access to all of my resources. You will be given the tools to improve your life and the lives of those you care for and about.
